Once you have chose your chart or table, proceed to the final step to choose axis and color options for your visualization (if applicable) and review your selections.

Choose to see an aggregate of all fields of activity

Choosing this option will allow you to show nonprofit data across all industries/fields of activity. When you choose this option, you will have two choices in the visualization stage:

Pie chart

TIP: To see how the nonprofit data variable you chose in Step One breaks down by industry in a pie chart, make sure that you have only selected a single geographic area (state or county). Select this option, and move on to Step Five, being sure to select only a single year. Note that this option is not available for the average weekly wage variable.

All other visualizations

If you would like to compare total employment, establishments, total annual wage, or average weekly wage across states, counties, or years, select this option and move to Step Five.

Choose the industry(ies) you would like to see

Choose up to 5 industries to compare to each other.

Nonprofit fields of activity/industry data availability

You will be able to choose only those industries where nonprofit employment, wage, or establishment data are available for the geographic area(s) you selected in the previous step. Data for greyed out industries in the selection box are not available because either a) fewer than three nonprofits are operating in that field in the chosen geographical area(s) or b) a single nonprofit unit represents more than 80% of the total in the area. The Bureau of Labor Statistics legally mandates this data suppression because disclosure may allow identification of individual units reporting the data. Sorting options

The fields of activity listed here are based on the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes, which break activity into both 2-digit “parent” industries, and more specific 3-digit “sub-industries.” Use this toggle to change the sorting between alphabetical and hierarchical, with the 3-digit industries listed below their 2-digit parent.
