Presented at the 2012 International Society for Third Sector Research and included in the ISTR Conference Paper Series, this paper presents a summary of new findings from the implementation of the UN Handbook on Nonprofit Institutions in the System of National Accounts. To do so, the discussion proceeds in four steps: first, it explains why the UN Nonprofit Handbook was needed; second, it outlines what this Handbook accomplishes; third, it provides a preliminary review the most recent findings from the implementation of this Handbook in sixteen countries ; and finally, it outlines some of the issues that still remain to be addressed as the Handbook implementation process unfolds.
