The National Institute of Statistics (NIS) released this first edition of the Satellite Account of Non-Profit Institutions resulting from the implementation of the United Nations Handbook on Nonprofit Institutions in the System of National Accounts, showing that NPIs employed 180,000 employees and 38,500 volunteer workers. Production stood at 392.4 billion CFA francs, or 2% of the total production of the domestic economy in 2011. In addition, this production activity generated added value of 317.3 billion CFA francs, representing 2 5% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the same year.
